Bengaluru – Just ahead of the release of his upcoming film Thug Life on June 5, actor and politician Kamal Haasan has landed in controversy over his recent comments about the Kannada language. The Karnataka High Court took serious note of his remarks, stating, “You may be Kamal Haasan, but you can’t hurt public sentiments.”
The actor reportedly refused to issue an apology, claiming he simply “spoke the truth.” This led him to move the High Court seeking permission to proceed with his film’s release without any hurdles.
However, the court criticized his stance, emphasizing that even public figures must be mindful of their words, especially when they concern regional and cultural sensitivities.
The incident has triggered widespread reactions, with some supporting Haasan’s freedom of speech, while others feel he crossed a line.
As the release date draws near, the spotlight now shifts to whether this controversy will affect Thug Life‘s box office fate—or fuel further debate across the South.
