Bengaluru, June 5 — A shocking stampede broke out at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium just before a major cricket match, leaving at least 18 fans injured and many others shaken. What was supposed to be a thrilling day of cricket quickly turned into a scene of panic and chaos.
Thousands of excited fans rushed the gates hours before the match began, leading to a sudden crowd surge. The lack of proper entry management caused people to push and shove, resulting in many being trampled and suffocated in the crowd. Security forces on duty struggled to bring the situation under control.
Videos circulating on social media show terrified fans screaming for help as others fell to the ground. Ambulances rushed to the stadium, and the injured were immediately taken to nearby hospitals. Thankfully, no deaths have been reported so far.
Spectators slammed the poor crowd control and lack of coordination between police and stadium officials. Many blamed the organizers for mismanagement, saying there were too few entry points and no proper system in place to handle such a large crowd.
“This was completely avoidable,” said one witness. “There were no proper signs, no clear directions. It was a disaster waiting to happen.”
The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) issued an apology and confirmed that a full investigation is underway. “We deeply regret the incident and are working with authorities to find out what went wrong. Fans’ safety is our top priority,” the official statement read.
The hashtag #ChinnaswamyStampede began trending on social media, with users demanding strict action and better security for future matches. Cricket lovers across the country are now questioning whether stadiums are truly prepared for such massive crowds.
This frightening incident has turned the spotlight on safety lapses in major sports events, urging authorities to take immediate steps to prevent another disaster.
