Hyderabad, May 23, 2025 – Hyderabad witnessed one of its darkest days as two tragic incidents unfolded within hours, leaving more than 20 people dead and dozens of families devastated.
Blazing Inferno at Gulzar Houz Kills 17, Wipes Out Entire Family
In the early hours of Thursday, a massive fire tore through a residential-commercial building near Gulzar Houz, claiming 17 lives, including children and six members of the same family. The flames, described by witnesses as “unstoppable,” quickly consumed the aging structure, trapping residents with little chance of escape.
Authorities believe the fire was triggered by an electrical short circuit on the building’s ground floor. Lacking functional fire exits and basic safety equipment, the structure turned into a deadly trap within minutes. “We could hear people shouting from inside, but the smoke was choking, and flames were everywhere,” said a nearby shop owner who watched in horror.
Fire crews battled the blaze for hours before bringing it under control. The remains of many victims were found severely burnt, with several bodies difficult to identify. Among them were two small children and an elderly couple caught on the top floor with no way out.
In a disturbing twist, the investigation is being slowed by a critical shortage of fire forensic specialists—with only one independent expert serving both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Officials admitted that the lack of personnel could delay essential findings and allow similar dangers to go unchecked.
Anger is growing among the public. “This isn’t a freak incident. It’s criminal negligence. Who’s doing the safety audits? Where’s the accountability?” demanded a local resident at the scene.
